About this blog…

This blog exists for the sharing of information between myself and others.  It is an arena for expression, and is by no means intended as an authoritative source for anything, other than my opinion.  Here you will find my thoughts and feelings on various subjects as the mood strikes me.  I am not responsible for the foolish acts of others, interpreting these thoughts and feelings as guidance or advice.  Heed or ignore my 2¢ at your own peril.

Who is this MadMark?

Mark is an IT and Information Security Manager who has been around the block a time or two.  I started into computers at the ripe old age of 14, dumpster diving and scavenging enough broken components to eventually build my own PC.  I managed to learn enough about computers to have my hobby pay for itself, and started my own BBS service.  I have been involved in the IT industry since the early 1980’s, and focused on Security since the late 1990’s.  I eventually found myself teaching others about computers and networks at the college level, and although I do not claim to be an expert in anything in particular, I do believe that my experience has brought many valuable lessons worth sharing.

Three things that I know for sure:

  1. My wife got the short end of the deal.
  2. I blog because it keeps my e-mails shorter.
  3. If you have the urge to talk about IT & security in business, I’ll do so until long after that desire has passed (for you).

Expect to see a lot of security related items here, and the occassional rambling about an IT topic or two.
