The Changing Face of Crime

Know your enemy.

Online crime has become big business.  There are development kits, tech support lines, outsourced development and technical updates available to would be hackers, all indicators of a mature, corporate underground economy.  Cyber attacks no longer perfromed to serve as mere political statements or for bragging rights.  Attackers have a clear agenda and can siphon off huge amounts of money, data, or even stall entire systems.

The profiles, styles and motives of attackers have undergone a major change too.  Criminals have shifted their focus from physical assets to data driven properties, such as trade secrets or product planning documents.

If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.
