If you’ve been on Facebook lately, you have undoubtedly noticed many of your friends have changed their profile picture to an image of a childhood cartoon character. The group, which now has 90,000 members, was originally started by an unnamed source, urging people to change their pictures to help fight child abuse, however it has since been exposed as a fake.
The NSPCC denied any involvement with the campaign, but was happy to receive the exposure. “Although the NSPCC did not originate the childhood cartoon Facebook campaign, we welcome the attention it has brought to the work we do.”
Personally, I would support the organization but unfriend any people, and remove any software, that was brought to me fraudulently. Their motivations remain unclear and suspect.
