Police are examining a clever hidden camera device that may have allowed fraud artists to obtain the debit card information of hundreds of women who attended the 9th Annual Women’s Show at the Tradex – Trade and Exhibition Centre near Abbotsford Airport.
Held between Oct. 23 to Oct. 25, this show is billed as the largest women’s event in British Columbia with about 400 exhibition tables selling and promoting everything from fashion to health and wellness. Police said they don’t yet know how many debit card numbers were compromised before a woman became curious about the hood on top of the ATM machine’s keypad and took it to security.
“We are trying to determine how long this was going on,” he said. “We are putting the hood of the camera through forensic work, we are also trying to find out how many images were captured on the camera and that would give us an indication of how long the camera was there.”
